News Corp. founder and CEO Rupert Murdoch files for divorce

The founder and CEO of global integrated media company News Corp., Rupert Murdoch, formally filed for divorce from his wife of 14 years, Wendi Deng, on June 13, according to a spokesman for the billionaire.

Eighty-two-year-old Murdoch married Deng in 1999 after he split with ex-wife Fringe star Anna Torv. Details as to what prompted the divorce were not revealed.

Two days before Murdoch filed for divorce, News Corp. shareholders okayed splitting the company into two publicly traded entities, one for its newspaper and book publishing business, and the other for its film and television labels.

Deng reportedly supported her husband amid allegations of his UK tabloids’ phone hacking celebrities and politicians, even slapping a protester who planted a cream pie on Murdoch’s face in 2011.

Murdoch and Deng have two daughters together. The former also has four other children from his two previous marriages.
