Interesting Facts About Marriage in the Lone Star State

Annual data tracking of marriage trends in Texas reveals some interesting facts about the state’s unions and separations. Since 1970, this information has been tracked by the Department of State Health Services, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

In 1984, 210,978 Texas couples got married. This number has been in the decline since then, and 2012 recorded a smaller, but still significant, number of 184,690 marriages in the state.

Harris County has the highest raw number of marriages in 2012 at 31,125, probably due to the fact that it is the most populous state in Texas. The county also boasts the largest number of yearly divorces for the same reason.

On the other hand, Guadalupe County experienced the lowest marriage rate at 2.16 marriages per 10,000 residents in 2012.
