Rising divorce rate could indicate economic improvement
Jessamyn Schaller, an economics professor at the University of Arizona mentioned that a recent increase in the national divorce rate could be an indication of a stabilizing economy. Schaller conducted a study of the shifting U.S. divorce rates using data from the National Center for Health Statistics.
Schaller’s findings indicate that in times of economic prosperity, people are able to make decisions more freely, especially over their marital status. When people endure economic hardship, they either don’t have the financial means to divide assets, or have more pressing matters to contend with other than their relationships.
