Shepard busted in New Mexico for drunk driving allegation

A drunk driving charge was recently filed against playwright Samuel Shepard while he was in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA Today stated in a May 26 article.

Reports revealed that Shepard, 71, was arrested in Santa Fe on May 25 after a restaurant security guard notified authorities. According to Police Lieutenant Andrea Dobyns, Shepard showed alcohol intoxication signs upon apprehension, and he failed a field sobriety test. The 1979 Pulitzer Prize winner avoided a breathalyzer test. Shepard told police that he was driving home after drinking two servings of tequila. As of this report, Shepard was still booked at Santa Fe County Jail and whether he had legal counsel was not verified.
