British celebrity chef Nigella Lawson and advertising magnate-multimillionaire art collector Charles Saatchi were granted a divorce decree nisi after 10 years of marriage in a 70-second court proceeding at the London high court on July 31. The couple will now have to wait about six weeks for a decree absolute to finalize their divorce.
Public rumors about their impending divorce started circulating after newspapers published photographs of the couple having an argument at a terrace restaurant in May, with Saatchi holding Lawson by the throat. Saatchi nixed public outcry about the photograph, saying it was merely a “playfull tiff” between a married couple.

Multimillionaire art collector and advertising magnate Charles Saatchi told The Daily Mail that he has begun divorce proceedings to end his 10-year marriage with wife Nigella Lawson, a food writer, journalist, broadcaster, and celebrity chef.
The couple’s relationship started going downhill after a British daily released a photograph of Saatchi gripping Lawson’s throat at a restaurant during an argument in mid-June. According to Saatchi, Lawson and their children moved out of their house after the incident and haven’t spoken to him since.
Saatchi said in the statement to The Daily Mail that he has “clearly been a disappointment to Nigella in the last year or so” and that he has been “disappointed that she was advised to make no public comment to explain that [he] abhors violence against women and [has] never abused her physically in any way.”
